چکیده

The effects of noise in the given phase o oignal reconstruction from the Fourier transform ohase are studied. Specifically, the effects of different methods of sampling the degraded phase, of the number of non—zero points in the sequence, and of the noise levol on the sequence reconstruction are examined. A sampling method is developef to significantly reduce the error in the reconstructed sequence, and the error is found to increase as the number of non—zero points in the sequence increases and as the noise level increases. In addition, an averacjing technique is (evelotDed which reduces the effects of noise when the continuous phase function is known. Finally, as an Illustration of how the results in this aper may applied in practice, Fourier transform signal coding is considered. Coding only the Fourier transform phase and reconstructing the signal from the coded phase is found to be considerably less efficient (i.e. a higher bit rate is required for the same mean square error) than reconstructing from both the coded phase and magnitude.

Assessment of the Wavelet Transform for Noise Reduction in Simulated PET Images

Introduction: An efficient method of tomographic imaging in nuclear medicine is positron emission tomography (PET). Compared to SPECT, PET has the advantages of higher levels of sensitivity, spatial resolution and more accurate quantification. However, high noise levels in the image limit its diagnostic utility. Noise removal in nuclear medicine is traditionally based on Fourier decomposition o...

Signal reconstruction from two close fractional Fourier power spectra

Based on the definition of the instantaneous frequency (signal phase derivative) as a local moment of the Wigner distribution, we derive the relationship between the instantaneous frequency and the derivative of the squared modulus of the fractional Fourier transform (fractional Fourier transform power spectrum) with respect to the angle parameter. We show that the angular derivative of the fra...

Fault Detection Method on a Compressor Rotor Using the Phase Variation of the Vibration Signal

The aim of this work is the application of the phase variation in vibration signal for fault detection on rotating machines. The vibration signal from the machine is modulated in amplitude and phase around a carrier frequency. The modulating signal in phase is determined after the Hilbert transform and is used, with the Fast Fourier Transform, to extract the harmonics spectrum in phase. This me...

Improved Estimation of Evolutionary Spectrum based on Short Time Fourier Transforms and Modified Magnitude Group Delay by Signal Decomposition

A new estimator for evolutionary spectrum (ES) based on short time Fourier transform (STFT) and modified group delay function (MGDF) by signal decomposition (SD) is proposed. The STFT due to its built-in averaging, suppresses the cross terms and the MGDF preserves the frequency resolution of the rectangular window with the reduction in the Gibbs ripple. The present work overcomes the magnitude ...
